Hi - we are Lorraine and Simon a fairly typical middle aged couple - what a horrible label but there is it - that is the stage we have reached in our lives. BUT I should also add happily married with 32yrs of (occasional) bliss under our belts.
Having done the package holidays, and the all inclusive weeks on the beach with the children we are now in the enviable position of holidays that can be enjoyed with freedom. That doesnt mean we didn't enjoy the organised excursions, or as many as you can drink Pina Coladas. They definitely had their place in our lives but now we can focus on what we want out of a holiday and how to achieve that.
Our approach
Our itinerary will be built around a region - we will have an idea of somewhere we want to go that has been inspired by something we have seen. Our favourite inspirations are cooking programs, or travel programs by famous chef's such as Rick Stein or Gino D'Campo. We will see somewhere they go and think 'I want to see that!'. From there our plans will spiral and a journey will emerge - 2 days here, 1 there - rarely more than 3 days in on place.
We are not very good at keeping still - there is always something to do - at home and on holiday and so it can be easy to forget to stop and breath. As silly as it sounds we plan for this. Building our itinerary to incorporate downtime and breathing space.
Luckily our interests - likes and dislikes - weave and intertwine (except when choosing a film to watch - then they are at polar opposites). Simon likes history, museums and architecture and if I can photograph it I'm in. We both like to feel the sun on our skin, and to have a swim in the sea - but if you hear us say we are having a beach day - you can translate that into 2hrs, maybe 3 maximum. Beach days will never be a day - it will be a filler to something else, a way to relax and end the day.
What do we hope you will get from our website
A bit of fun (at our expense), a little insight in how to plan your own free format holiday and maybe a spattering of inspiration and confidence. I am not saying that what we do is unique by any stretch of the imagination but it suits us. In our planning we do a lot of research using peoples personal travel websites along side the normal trip adviser, lonely planet and so on and I have enjoyed learning from other peoples experiences so thought 'why not share mine?'.
