Verona

Romeo, Juliet and so much more

Fair Verona, a city of romance

We landed on a visit to Verona based on its locality to Bergamo - giving us the benefit of flying from our local airport.  After a night in Bergamo in our favourite bar we boarded the train - after 2hrs and a £9 one way fare we arrived.

An easy 10 minute bus ride dropped us outside the bustling arena full of excitement for the weekend.

There are so many places to visit in Verona that we didn't  know where to begin but a quick trip to the tourist info and 2 Verona Passes later we were off.

Top tip:

We found the Verona Card well worth the money when we worked out which attractions we wanted to visit - it made life so simple!  Visit the website to find out more about the options and cost: https://www.visitverona.it/en/explore/culture-at-an-affordable-price

Castles, roman ruins and so much more

We all associate Verona with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and there is plenty of homage to the famous couple but Verona has so much more to offer outside of this story.

A beautiful castle, an working amphitheatre, the Lamberti tower with awesome views over the city, bustling piazza's , architecture and some quirky bars.

But first spending a couple of hours sharing a pizza and beers in the sunshine was a must in Piazza Erbe, followed by a walk around the artisan market.  A super chilled way to begin the weekend.

So what about about Romeo & Juliet

its all about Juliet

But its got to be done

Pretty much all of the homage is to the fair Juliett - with only a minor nod to Romeo.

There are some highlights though - Juliets house and of course the balcony are worth it as you wander through the historic home and pose for that all important memory

It can be a bit tacky

I mean you cant not got to Verona and want to follow the trail but it can be a bit well - cheesey - the square outside Juliets house was BUSY with everyone queuing to be pictured with the bronze statue of Juliet - and of course to invite love into their live by grabbing her right breast.

A bit of a walk

Now Juliets tomb - a word of warning - is a good 40 minute walk out of the city and whilst you might feel compelled to do this - rememeber - its not her tomb - she wasnt real!
