There are three components to our journeys and each one of them give an element of delight and a moment of sadness as it passes. It is a continuous cycle that helps you through the more mundane paths of our daily existence.
The planning and anticipation of the event which will ebb and flow as it takes shape and the date draws near, picking the places to visit, researching what it has to offer and constantly changing the path until it feels just right - always leaving that little bit to chance and something you cant quite fit in so you will have to go back. I love this phase and I particularly love finding the right place to stay, even if it is just one night it has to be somewhere that says something about where I am.
The journey itself which begins as you load the car and turn the key in you home, kissing the pets good bye and warning the remaining occupants to return the house to you as you left it. I always find the journey out both full of promise but tinged with a whisper of sadness - the journey is happening and its real but already you are conscious that the end is sight. As you traverse through this time you build your memories - test the success of your planning 'what has been your favourite meal so far', 'was this what we expected and is it some where we would like to return' and so on and so forth.
The final stage in the cycle is returning home, to the joy of your pets and occasionally the offspring (but only because you are back to cook and clean). Sharing your joys and frustrations with anyone who is willing to hear and delivering your pearls of wisdom and insight to anyone who may be considering the destination themselves. Boxing this journey off by looking back (once) at your pictures and celebrating yourselves for planning such a fantastic trip, with the odd laugh about 'do you remember'.
Then to avoid yourself falling into the pit of despair that this carefree period of your life is over you start the cycle again - diving into the planning. To be honest we have been known to start this phase before the last one is over!
On this page we want to share with you some of our adventures and stories. The moments that make your holiday that can all to soon be forgotten or eroded with time. The places you go, the people you meet. So often I come back from holiday wishing I had taken more photo's, not just of the surroundings but of the people we have spoken to and that is going to be one of my next challenges to myself, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy reading some of the moments that turned into memories for us.
