Valley of the Temples

One of the largest archaeological sites in the world, the Valley of the Temples lies on the ridge bordering the plateau to the south on which ancient Akragas once stood: declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and is synomous with a visit to Agrigento.

Where to start

We parked at the end of the valley ( Parcheggio Porta V Valle dei Templi) and caught a shuttle bus to the ticket office and entrance so we only had to walk one way through the site. Alternatively there is plenty of parking at the entrance and then take the shuttle bus back to your car.

Take a hat and water

Its hot! and there is not always a lot of shade so make sure you take sun cream and a hat.  There are coffee shops in the park but its a good idea to carry some water.

Its popular

So book in advance and if you are a photographer like me be prepared to wait for a gap in the crowds at the most popular points to get your shot.  If you are a serious photographer think about the time of day you want to be there

How long do you need

We spent a good half day walking round so allow yourselve plenty of time - it is quite a big site.
